Today, we invite you to discover the "Portrait Croisé" interview with Juliette Tauvel. Newly arrived at the ECAM Alumni Association at the beginning of July 2022, we are delighted to welcome her to take over from Axel Vautrin, who leaves us in October. In this mini-series of two portraits, we take a look at the careers and personalities of the association's employees, who support you on a daily basis!

An interview conducted by Axel Vautrin, Management Assistant and Communications Officer for ECAM Alumni.

"You need to build up your network through encounters, experiences and day-to-day life. Like an anthill, everyone has a role to play, and it's by turning group spirit into strength that its power is multiplied!

Axel : Hi Juliette, could you introduce yourself in a few words?

Juliette: My name is Juliette and I'm 23 years old. I was born in Strasbourg and grew up in Lyon. I'd describe myself as "very imaginative", which helps me with my creations, both artistic and graphic. Let's just say I like to draw my own outlines! For this, every community inspires me: I like to learn by sharing my daily life with inspiring people.

A: Can you tell us how you got involved with the ECAM Alumni Association?

J: After my last experience, I was looking for a job closer to my personal convictions. When I was looking for information about APEC, I saw an advert for Etienne Pezzoli's recruitment agency (ECAM 2005 AML), to whom the association had entrusted its recruitment. I was very interested, especially as I knew ECAM by reputation. I got in touch with him and we talked very quickly. The first interview was very decisive: I quickly realized that this was where I wanted to go. Indeed, I found him very passionate and committed to the association. I then met with the association's directors, who went into more detail about their needs and explained the spirit of the association to me. I must admit that I quickly recognized myself in the "Lassallian" values they presented to me.

When they got back in touch to tell me I'd been selected, I was thrilled and couldn't wait to get settled in!

A: What will be your role in the Association?

J: I'll be responsible for all communication and events. My aim is to drive the network forward, exploit its potential for cohesion and unite alumni around shared values.

The idea is to create a link between future graduates and engineering and master's graduates: in short, to ensure the continuity of ECAM's values.

A: Tell us about your background and what makes you an added value for the association?

J: With a degree in Arts and Languages, I initially wanted to become a teacher: pedagogy and the transmission of knowledge are values that inspire me. But I decided to take it to the next level by continuing my studies at IAE Lyon in Multimedia Communication. While doing a work-study placement in a business incubator, I wanted to be able to add graphic design and communications strategy know-how to my writing skills. The idea was to make each production more effective so as to speak to as many people as possible.

At Pépinière de Valpré, my role was to lead and strengthen the links between the intra- and inter-incubator network, in partnership with the various players involved in entrepreneurship. Through this experience, the association's missions and challenges rekindled my initial ambitions, namely to contribute to the strengthening and expansion of the ECAM Engineers Network in Lyon and Strasbourg.

The world of entrepreneurship has taught me a lot, from the relationships to develop to the challenges and tools to face them. During my studies, I wrote my dissertation on the impact of digital communication on business start-ups, so I think I can meet the challenges of the ECAM network, now and in the future.

A: What's your vision of the association today, given that you've only been with us for a month?

J: For me, there's a real potential to be developed: it's a question of meeting the ambitions and needs of each member in their intergenerationality, while at the same time consolidating existing links. The ECAM Alumni network represents both the graduating classes of 1963 and the outgoing classes. It is in this spirit of diversity that I build my projects, so as to embody the values of the Amicale sought by some, but also the prism of the network at the service of careers, sought by others.

A: What does the network mean to you?

J: To make the link with what I was saying earlier, the network represents a universe to be developed and built throughout one's life. It's that friend who is precious to us when we need him, and who guides us when the need arises. In my opinion, it's necessary to support it through encounters, experiences and daily life. Like an anthill, everyone has a role to play, and it's by turning group spirit into strength that its power is multiplied!

A: To get away from the usual interviews, tell us about yourself: who are you really, "Juliette"?

J: Juliette is the kind of person who likes to learn and challenge herself at the same time (laughs). On a more serious note, I'd say I have this need to be stimulated, both so as not to get bored and to feel like I'm moving forward. This expresses itself in many ways; it's as much about watching a documentary on how mushrooms work as it is about going to a vernissage in the depths of Lyon, in a strange café! I think I like exploring all the people I could be! But on a deeper level, I do a lot of art, like sculpture and painting, depending on my mood. Most of all, I like to challenge myself and share my daily life with people who are rich in experience.

A: Your favorite movie?

J: Without hesitation, I'd say "Big Fish"! It's the film that most appeals to my imagination, and one that emphasizes the value of not trusting appearances. I'd recommend it to anyone!

A: Do you have a mantra that drives you on a daily basis?

J: Yes, of course: it comes from my father, who always told me to be proud of myself. No matter what the circumstances, you have to hold your head high and be the person you are, without giving in to adversity.

A: And in the midst of all this, what are your faults?

J : If my previous answer is to be believed, I don't have any... (laughs) I'm joking, but I'd say I'm pretty whole. I have a lot of trouble with pretence, which is why I have a certain sincerity that sometimes, I don't hide it, can upset some people!

A: If you could have dinner with any personality, who would you choose?

J: I think I'd choose Simone de Beauvoir for the emancipation and freedom of expression she offered women. First and foremost, she was an avant-gardiste who explained gender inequalitiesin terms of historical constructs, thereby encouraging women to take back controlof their destiny. Today, the professional landscape is more diversified, particularly in the world of engineering, thanks to this kind of intervention!

A: What would you say to conclude this exchange?

J: I'd like to invite anyone who wants to, to come and meet us at the association: we're at the top of the ECAM LaSalle Lyon campus at 22 montée Nicolas de Lange 69005 Lyon! I'm looking forward to building projects or collaborating with anyone who needs it, regardless of age or promotion: there's noharm in developing your network.
