[PORTRAIT D'ADMINISTRATEUR ECAM ALUMNI] Jean AUCLAIRE - ECAM PROMO 1980 AML
SCHOOL
How did you get to ECAM?
As a boarder at the Maristes in Riom and the son of a MICHELIN engineer, I saw ECAM Lyon as a benchmark engineering school.
Quite naturally, following the results of the competitive exams held at the end of the preparatory classes, I was one of the five students entering the first year who had not been formatted by the "Lazos".was one of five students entering the first year who had not been trained by the "Lazos".
What stood out for you during your training?
The three years I spent on the "Hill of Prayer" were unforgettable, and forged my personality for good.
From this period, I remember, first and foremost, the men who devoted themselves to our cause. Among all these exceptional personalities, I would single out Jean BOUISSET, who was for generations of students the "ever present, just and benevolent Father".not forgetting Brother René BONNETAIN, Jean GUY, Bernard PINATEL, Bernard PITTION and Michel DENIS.
In a highly professional atmosphere that enabled us to acquire new knowledge, skills and attitudes every day, we shared values in which duty was paramount.
The many moments of camaraderie spent in the hostel and in sports activities have created lifelong bonds of sincere friendship; the inter-school activities have also enabled me to start a family.
What advice would you give to the graduating class?
Trust your School, your trainers and your community, for they have given you the "assets" you need to meet your future challenges.
Within the framework of Lasallian values, your duty is to respect their principles, while perpetuating traditions.
WORKING LIFE - PRO CHALLENGES
TODAY, Jean AUCLAIRE, what kind of professional is he?
Recently retired, and somewhat atypical for my generation, I had the opportunity to work in seven different structures: the French Navy, Framatome, Alstom, Thomson, Carbone Lorraine, Kalyxe (my own holding company) and the Ecole des Mines.
As a specialist in nuclear power, railways, electrotechnical components and energy, my career has taken me from managing director to entrepreneur.my career has spanned functions ranging from general manager to entrepreneur, including research, production and the strategic challenges of mergers and acquisitions.
Ending my career in an engineering school, in an intellectually enriching context, gave me a certain perspective. This gave me the opportunity to pass on my experience to my students.
I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I've just set up a small consulting business.
What does Engineering mean to you?
If I had to come up with a definition of the French engineering profession, I'd sum it up as follows: "With the support of technological principles, an engineer materializes scientific concepts for their exploitation as part of a mission of progress, in the sense of the 18th century philosophers".
To illustrate this concept, I'd like to quote one of my favorite sayings: "I've met engineers who became doctors, lawyers, accountants, sales people, HR managers, craftsmen, even artists, but I've never seen the reverse."
The son of an engineer and the father of three engineers, we all come from different schools, and we all work in the most beautiful profession in the world.
Any other personal/professional challenges you'd like to mention?
First challenge: Family. Despite professional constraints, always remember that family is what remains after everything else.
Second challenge: Associations. Knowing how to give time to bring to others, directly or indirectly, a little of yourself (you are the light and salt of the earth - Matthew 5, 13-16).
Third challenge: Sport. I'm passionate about mountain trails because of the beauty of the scenery, and endurance training allows you to reach unimaginable limits. I'd like to reactivate the ECAM Alumni Running Passion Group. A bon entendeur...
THE NETWORK / YOUR COMMITMENTS TO ECAM ALUMNI
What does the Network mean to you?
It is an essential element in the life of our community, and should be used without restraint through digital tools, publications, passion groups, regions and promotions, assistance (employment, career, etc.) and meetings (conferences, AGMs, afterworks, Masses at Fourvière, etc.).
Being part of this network means discovering that friendship knows no generational boundaries.
Nor is it limited to AIECAM LS, as we are an active member of IESF (Ingénieurs et Scientifiques de France), which brings together all French alumni and enables us to share information with ICAMs, Xs, Pistons, Miners, Gadz'Arts...
On the other hand, running a network requires resources, contrary to what social networks would have us believe. As treasurer of our association, I strongly urge you to make a financial contribution (however modest).
Tell me about your role in the association!
As simply as possible: active member of the Lyon group for 40 years; member of the Board of Directors for 10 years and currently Treasurer and Secretary.
What motivated this commitment?
Values received at ECAM
The final word?
May our community, made up of the two schools (Lyon and Strasbourg-Europe) and our association serving all ECAM engineers, succeed in its missions and, above all, prosper.
The directory in preparation will be the symbol of this success.
Why not imagine a future with other structures...
